Mae W. Gebhard, a 65-year-old woman, was last seen on February 24, 1981, in San Francisco, California. On the day of her disappearance, Mae had an argument with her husband of 48 years regarding a phone bill. Following the argument, she called the police. When officers arrived, they suggested that one of them take a walk to cool down. Mae left their home on 44th Avenue in the Sea Cliff area but never returned. Her husband reported her missing later that night.
Mae had ongoing health issues at the time, including the lingering effects of a car accident in May 1980, which left her in pain. She was taking 15 different medications, including heart medication. When she left, Mae took her medications and her husband's sleeping pills but left behind personal items like her eyeglasses and checkbook. Despite searches and investigations, she has not been found, and her case remains unsolved.
