Leona Jean Larson, aged 61, was last seen on October 6, 1980, in Tracy, Minnesota. Her disappearance remains a mystery, with few leads and no definitive answers to this day. On the day she went missing, an auctioneer arrived at her home to assess some belongings, but her husband, Clarence Larson, informed him that Leona had traveled to Minneapolis for medical treatment.
Over the following weeks, Clarence gave various conflicting explanations about her whereabouts, claiming at different times that she was in California or Wisconsin for treatment, visiting relatives, or even on a holiday. However, none of these claims were substantiated.
Leona’s disappearance raised significant suspicions, especially since her husband had been acquitted years earlier of the murder of his first wife. Authorities found bloodstains on Leona’s coat and in the family’s kitchen, but at the time, securing a conviction without a body was difficult. Despite extensive searches, including in areas around Lake Shetek, no trace of Leona has ever been found. The case is still considered unsolved, and it is widely believed that foul play was involved.
