Milda Dahl McQuillan, a 71-year-old woman from Ponsford, Minnesota, disappeared on June 17, 1975, under mysterious circumstances. On the day of her disappearance, McQuillan was driving her pea-green, two-door 1968 Dodge to visit friends on the west side of Bad Medicine Lake. Despite recent rain making the roads muddy, she set out for the 18-mile trip. A few miles into the journey, her car stalled, but a postal worker she knew helped her get it started again.
Later, after making a wrong turn, she asked a truck driver for directions, who became the last person known to have seen her.
Three days after she was reported missing, her car was found stuck in the mud on an unused logging road, just 100 feet off East Bad Medicine Lake Road, near her friends' cabin. The heavily wooded and swampy area was thoroughly searched, but there were no signs of McQuillan. Days later, searchers found her scarf and a belt hanging from a bush in an area that had already been searched, raising suspicions that the items may have been planted. This added to the mystery, as the couple she was supposed to visit had not actively participated in the search, and a man from that household had been seen wearing suspiciously wet clothes when questioned by police.
Despite thorough investigations, no trace of McQuillan has been found, and her case remains unsolved. Her family suspects foul play, particularly given the peculiar circumstances surrounding the discovery of her belongings and the behavior of the individuals she intended to visit.
