His driver's license, a journal, his backpack, a sleeping bag, hiking boots, and a heavy wool coat were all accounted for, yet there was no sign of Dylan himself. It appeared as though he had set up a campsite and then vanished, leaving behind items essential for survival in the wilderness, particularly during winter.
