James Rufus Williams, 27 years old, was last seen on April 1, 1955, in Old Fort, North Carolina. On the day of his disappearance, he had gone to work at the Old Fort Finishing Plant, but left early, either because he wasn’t feeling well or due to forgetting something. He was last spotted walking along railroad tracks in the area. His family reported him missing soon after, and authorities conducted searches, including dragging parts of the Catawba River, but found no trace of him.
