On the day he went missing, he was last seen walking near the residence on Microwave Tower Road, accompanied by his two dogs, a tan Chihuahua and a black Doberman puppy.
He was wearing a black t-shirt, blue jeans, and white Mickey Mouse tennis shoes. Tristen had a noticeable scar on the left side of his neck and was known to have a speech impediment. His disappearance prompted an immediate and massive response from law enforcement and the local community, all desperate to find the little boy who had simply wandered away.
The search for Tristen was one of the largest in Sampson County's history, involving extensive efforts to comb through the dense woods, farmlands, and numerous ponds surrounding the home. Hopes were briefly raised when tracking dogs followed a scent to a nearby pond, but after the body of water was drained, no trace of the boy was found.
