Fred Comstock, a 19-year-old male, went missing on September 1, 1975, during a hiking trip in Yosemite National Park. He was hiking with a female companion and her son, whom he had recently met. While at the Vogelsang High Sierra Camp, it was agreed that Fred would hike back to Tuolumne Meadows to retrieve the companion’s car and drive it to Yosemite Valley, where they would meet. Fred never made it to the car, and his personal belongings, including his wallet, were left behind in the vehicle. This suggests that something may have happened to him on the return journey.

The circumstances of his disappearance remain unclear. The distance between Vogelsang and Yosemite Valley is significant, raising questions about the plan for Fred to go alone.
