On August 19, 2013, a Spring Valley Swap Meet employee began inspection of the swap meet property, which included a field across Quarry Road. During his inspection, he noticed a pungent odor within twelve to fifteen foot high bamboo shoots, and he called 9-1-1 when he found human skeletal remains inside a dense area of the shoots. This area was known for homeless encampment along the creek.
