On the afternoon of 08/31/2024, a female individual was walking with her dog along a trail near Balboa Park when she briefly stopped for a rest. As she was resting, the female noted that her dog had gone slightly off the trail and was smelling what appeared to be a human skull. The female placed a 911 call and the San Diego Police Department (SDPD) arrived on scene. Death was confirmed by officers shortly after their arrival without medical intervention due to having located skeletal remains.
