He later provided various explanations for his actions, including alleged drug influence and past abuse. In June 1992, he pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to 17 to 20 years in prison.

- Details: Botelho disappeared in 1988. In 2000, Tavares, while incarcerated, led authorities to her remains buried in the backyard of his former residence. - Details: Shortly after his release from prison, Tavares fatally shot his neighbors, Beverly (28) and Brian (30) Mauck, in their home. He claimed the motive was a dispute over $50 for a tattoo and perceived disrespect. In February 2008, he pleaded guilty to aggravated first-degree murder and received a life sentence without parole.
