2025 Stockton Birthday Party Mass Shooting
Overview of the Attack
The Stockton birthday party mass shooting occurred on November 29, 2025, during a celebration for a two-year-old girl in San Joaquin County, California. The attack killed four people, including three children, and wounded 13 others. Although the incident is commonly described as the Stockton mass shooting, it took place at an event venue in an unincorporated area immediately outside Stockton's city limits.
The gunmen responsible for the killings had not been publicly identified as of the latest reported investigative update. Authorities believe several people may have participated in the attack, meaning there is no single identified mass murderer who can presently be named. Investigators have described the shooting as a targeted assault, but they have not officially established the motive or announced murder charges against any suspected shooter.
The Birthday Celebration
The party was held at Monkey Space, a privately operated banquet and event hall at 1955 Lucile Avenue. Approximately 80 to 100 relatives, friends and children had gathered to celebrate the second birthday of a young girl. The event was scheduled to conclude at about 6:00 p.m., and guests were preparing for the traditional cutting of the birthday cake when gunfire suddenly erupted.
The toddler's mother, Patrice Williams, later said she initially believed the sound came from balloons popping. Within moments, however, people realized that shots were being fired inside the crowded hall. Adults attempted to protect children, find cover and escape as the celebration descended into panic. The two-year-old birthday girl survived without being physically injured, but several members of her extended family and social circle were struck.
The Shooting
The first emergency reports were received at approximately 6:00 p.m. Witness accounts indicated that one or more masked attackers wearing dark clothing entered or approached the venue and opened fire. Investigators believe shooting occurred both inside the banquet hall and outside the building as guests fled. The number of gunshots, the different weapons involved and the movement of the attackers led detectives to suspect that multiple people fired weapons during the assault.
Deputies, police officers, firefighters and emergency medical personnel arrived to find numerous victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Survivors were taken to hospitals throughout the region, while investigators secured the hall, surrounding parking areas and nearby streets. Four victims died from their injuries. Initial reports listed 11 wounded survivors, but authorities later determined that 13 people had been injured, bringing the total number of people shot to 17.
Investigators recovered more than 50 cartridge casings from the crime scene. Ballistic evidence reportedly indicated that at least five firearms had been discharged. Detectives also examined whether anyone attending the party may have returned fire. Weapons were reportedly located on the roof of the venue, although authorities had not immediately established whether those firearms were used in the massacre.
