In the early hours of a spring morning in Springfield, Missouri, the life of 23-year-old Malik Sutton was tragically cut short. On May 14, 2022, at approximately 1:48 a.m., gunfire erupted in a parking lot located at 313 N. Boonville Ave., leaving a scene of violence that would claim two lives and injure another.
When Springfield Police Department officers arrived, they discovered two male victims with gunshot wounds. One of them, Malik Sutton, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The second victim, 20-year-old Kylon McAfee, also from Springfield, was rushed to a local hospital for emergency treatment but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. A third man had also been shot but sustained non-life-threatening wounds and received medical care.
The double homicide marked the fifth and sixth homicides in Springfield for the year 2022.
