On the morning of July 6, 2022, a tragic confrontation unfolded in Springfield, Missouri, claiming the life of 25-year-old male Colin Loderhose. Loderhose was an employee at Anchor Tactical, a supply store located on South Campbell Avenue. The events leading to his death began when two men, identified as Zachary A. Cano and Jonathan C. Peace, entered the business.
The pair had visited the store previously, and it was alleged that they had been involved in the theft of a firearm from the premises just a day prior. When Loderhose recognized the individuals and confronted them regarding the stolen merchandise, the situation escalated as the suspects attempted to leave the scene.
As the confrontation moved to the parking lot, reports indicate that Loderhose was attempting to document the encounter or the suspects' vehicle when Zachary Cano drew a weapon. Cano fired at Loderhose, striking him fatally. After the shooting, both suspects fled the scene in a vehicle, prompting a citizen to follow them and alert authorities. This quick action allowed law enforcement to track the suspects to an apartment complex on South Lexington Avenue, where both men were taken into custody without further incident. Loderhose was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
Legal proceedings against the two suspects moved forward in the months following the shooting. Zachary Cano, who was 20 years old at the time of the incident, faced the most severe charges. Although initially charged with first-degree murder, he later accepted a plea deal. On April 28, 2023, Cano pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree assault, and stealing. He was subsequently sentenced to life in prison for the murder charge, with the court stipulating that he must serve at least 25 and a half years before becoming eligible for parole. The second suspect, Jonathan Peace, was prosecuted for his role in the theft that precipitated the violence and was sentenced to seven years in prison.
