On June 4, 2023, the Springfield Police Department received reports of a shooting in the early morning hours and dispatched officers to a parking lot located at 1336 West Sunshine Street in Springfield, Missouri. Arriving at the scene at approximately 3:47 a.m., law enforcement discovered a victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The injured individual was identified as 24-year-old Adrian Gutierrez, a Hispanic male who was originally from Sun Valley, California.
Emergency responders
immediately transported Gutierrez to a nearby hospital to receive treatment for his life-threatening injuries. Medical personnel worked to save him, but his condition was severe. After battling his injuries for several days, he passed away in the hospital on June 8, 2023. His death marked the seventh homicide investigation for the city of Springfield that year, leading detectives to intensify their examination of the events that transpired in the parking lot.
Through their investigation, police determined that multiple people were present during the incident and appealed to the public for additional information. Detectives successfully identified two juvenile suspects connected to the shooting. On June 8, 2023, the same day the victim succumbed to his wounds, both juveniles were taken into custody. Following the arrests, authorities presented charges of second-degree murder to the Greene County Juvenile Office for review.
