Darnell Ashford, a 29-year-old male, was fatally shot on July 18, 2022, in St. Louis County, Missouri, following a domestic dispute. The incident occurred at an apartment on Dragonwyck Drive, where an argument between Ashford and his girlfriend, 20-year-old Jaylon Dennis, escalated.
The dispute reportedly began over allegations of Ashford's infidelity. During the argument, Ashford is said to have made a veiled threat towards Dennis.
Following this exchange, Dennis left the apartment for a short time to walk around the parking lot. Upon her return, she retrieved a semi-automatic handgun from her bedroom.
Dennis then went to the kitchen, where Ashford was seated, and shot him twice in the back of the head. Ashford was pronounced dead at the scene. When questioned by police, Dennis admitted to the shooting.
Jaylon Dennis was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with Ashford's death. She was held on a $500,000 cash-only bond. The investigation into the shooting was conducted by St. Louis County detectives from the Bureau of Crimes Against Persons.
