On the evening of July 27, 2022, violent events unfolded in the Spanish Lake area of St. Louis County, Missouri, resulting in the loss of a young life. Julius Gleghorn, a 21-year-old Black male, was navigating his vehicle near the intersection of Larimore Road and Reale Avenue when he became the target of a pursuit. Earlier that night, Gleghorn had stopped to fuel his car at a gas station in north St. Louis County.
Unbeknownst to him, another vehicle occupied by three individuals was also at the station. The driver of that vehicle waited for Gleghorn to complete his transaction and depart before initiating a chase.
As the vehicles sped through the streets, occupants of the pursuing car opened fire, striking Gleghorn twice. The gunfire caused him to lose control of his vehicle, which subsequently careened off the road and collided forcefully with a tree around 8:20 p.m. First responders arrived at the crash site to find the driver suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. He was urgently transported to a local hospital for emergency treatment, but medical personnel were unable to save him, and he succumbed to his injuries.
Homicide detectives with the St. Louis County Police Department launched an investigation into the shooting. Through their inquiries, they identified 19-year-old Argentry J. Brown as the driver of the suspect vehicle. According to charging documents, Brown and his passengers had targeted the victim at the gas station before following him to the scene of the shooting.
Authorities eventually apprehended Brown in connection with the homicide. Prosecutors charged him with first-degree murder and armed criminal action for his role in the fatal incident. The investigation revealed the calculated nature of the attack, noting how the suspects lay in wait before hunting down the victim, ultimately bringing a violent end to the encounter on the quiet residential streets of Spanish Lake.
