On the early morning of September 30, 2022, a fatal shooting occurred in downtown St. Louis involving 18-year-old male Corion Love. The incident unfolded shortly after midnight in the 1100 block of Lucas Avenue, where Love and an accomplice were reportedly driving a Nissan Murano. According to investigators, the pair stopped near a parked Dodge Ram truck and attempted to gain entry.
As Love allegedly tried to climb through the truck’s window, the vehicle's owner, Arnaud Jones, observed the activity from his loft apartment overlooking the street. Jones fired multiple shots from his window toward the individuals below, striking Love in the back and wounding his accomplice.
Following the gunfire, Love was transported to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in a private vehicle. The driver, identified as the accomplice involved in the earlier attempted break-in, dropped the wounded teenager off at the medical center around 2:40 a.m. but did not remain at the scene. Medical personnel attended to Love, whose condition rapidly deteriorated throughout the morning. Despite emergency efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly before 9:00 a.m. The accomplice sought medical treatment for his own injuries the following day, while Love was unable to provide a statement to authorities before his passing.
Detectives eventually identified Arnaud Jones as the shooter. During questioning, Jones admitted to firing his weapon from his residence, claiming he intended to fire warning shots after seeing someone breaking into his vehicle but did not realize he had struck anyone. He also stated he could not recall where he disposed of the firearm used in the incident. Authorities noted that Jones fired four rounds from his loft window while Love was halfway inside the truck.
Legal proceedings against Jones have been complex and ongoing. He was initially arrested in January 2023, and months later, the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged him with second-degree murder, first-degree assault, unlawful possession of a firearm, and armed criminal action. However, these charges were dismissed just days before his trial was set to begin. Prosecutors refiled the case in February 2024 with upgraded charges, including first-degree murder. Jones, who is in his early 40s, was ordered to be held without bond as he faces these renewed accusations.
