Anthony Santi, a 41-year-old man, was fatally shot on October 6, 2022, following an altercation at a gas station and convenience store in Independence, Missouri. An off-duty Kansas City firefighter and EMT, Santi was at the business on U.S. 40 Highway when a dispute arose between a customer, Ja'Von L. Taylor, 23, and a clerk inside the store. Santi intervened in the argument, which then escalated and moved outside the establishment.
