In the autumn of 2022, a young man's life was abruptly cut short in Florissant, Missouri. On the afternoon of October 29, 19-year-old Demetrion Simmons, a male, was volunteering with the community organization Voices for Action. The group was active near the Calvary Bible Church of Florissant on Graham Road, ahead of a planned Community Harvest Festival set to begin later that day. The festive atmosphere was shattered at around 1:30 p.m. by the sound of gunfire.

According to police investigations, a vehicle carrying four individuals pulled up in the 800 block of Graham Road. One of the occupants exited the car and fired approximately 11 shots at Demetrion Simmons, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The senseless act of violence led to the immediate cancellation of the community festival as law enforcement began their investigation into the tragic shooting.

Months of dedicated work by the Florissant Police Department led to a breakthrough in the case. In March 2023, the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office announced charges against four teenage suspects. Brandon Jackson, Andre Pollard, and Kaylen Russell, all 19 years old at the time of the charges, along with 18-year-old Antynious Williams, were each charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. Following the charges, all four suspects were held on a $750,000 bond, bringing a measure of progress for a family and community mourning a profound loss.
