Patrolman Samuel Cooper, aged 41, tragically died on November 1, 1900, after succumbing to an infection from gunshot wounds he sustained on October 21, 1900. Cooper was attempting to arrest an armed robbery suspect at the time of the incident. While on patrol, he observed a suspect exiting a closed saloon at 329 South Michigan Street in South Bend, Indiana.
