On a Sunday afternoon in Indianapolis, Indiana, on May 18, 2014, the life of 29-year-old Rickey Paul Hunt Jr. was tragically cut short. In the 4100 block of North Tacoma Avenue on the city's Northeastside, gunshots rang out around 2 p.m., leaving Hunt with multiple and fatal wounds.
When officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department arrived at the scene, they found Hunt unresponsive.
He was rushed to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition, but his injuries proved too severe, and he was pronounced dead a few hours later. The motive for the shooting remained a mystery to investigators.
In the days that followed, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department appealed to the public for any information that might lead to an understanding of what happened to Rickey Hunt and who was responsible. Despite their investigative efforts, no suspect information was ever released to the public.
More than a decade has passed since Rickey Hunt's death, and the case remains unsolved. There have been no arrests, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with his murder. The investigation officially remains open, a cold case waiting for a break that might one day bring closure to his family and community. Funeral services for Hunt were held on May 31, 2014, at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, and he was buried at Washington Park North Cemetery.
