On a rural road in Orange County, Indiana, the life of 31-year-old John E. Thacker was brought to a violent and premeditated end on November 2, 1984. Thacker, a male, was ambushed as he drove near his home. A pine log, deliberately placed in the roadway, forced him to stop his vehicle. When he got out to move the obstruction, he was fatally struck by shotgun slugs from a 12-gauge.
