John E. Thacker, aged 31, was tragically murdered on November 2, 1984, in Orange County, Indiana. His death became one of the most infamous murder cases in the county's history. Thacker was ambushed on a rural road near his home when he stopped his vehicle to move a pine log that had been deliberately placed on the road. He was struck by 12-gauge shotgun and deer slugs, leading to his untimely death.
