In a sudden and brutal act, Rushing was shot in the left temple and died at the scene. The gunfire did not end with him; two other men, Derrick Wells and Rayvon Sanders, were also struck. Wells was shot seven times, resulting in paralysis and blindness, while Sanders sustained injuries in another part of the house.
