In the early morning hours of March 19, 2002, the quiet of a South Bend, Indiana neighborhood was broken by a grim discovery. In an alley in the 1300 block of College Street, a resident found the body of 43-year-old Gary McCracken. Emergency crews responded to the scene and pronounced the South Bend man dead from a gunshot wound.
