Brett Dobbins, a 44-year-old resident of Eden, Indiana, was tragically shot and killed on August 10, 2004, outside his home. The investigation revealed that his death was the result of a murder-for-hire plot orchestrated by Linda Shimer, a close friend of Dobbins' wife, Nancy. Shimer's intense dislike for Brett Dobbins escalated into what prosecutors described as a 'volcanic hatred,' leading her to hire Kenneth Kelly, a 19-year-old from Indianapolis, to carry out the murder.
