In what was described as an on-and-off relationship of about seven years, the life of 27-year-old Jennifer Marie Parrett, a female, came to a tragic end in Wabash, Indiana. On the evening of Monday, March 8, 2010, she was fatally shot by her boyfriend, 30-year-old Ryan Hunt, in a violent murder-suicide. The incident unfolded in the driveway of their home on Courtland Avenue as Parrett was attempting to leave with their two young sons, aged 3 and 4, in the car.
The situation escalated
from a domestic dispute that occurred after Parrett had brought the children to the home for a visit with Hunt. As she was backing her Chevrolet Lumina out of the driveway, Hunt fired a. 410 bore shotgun through the driver's-side window, striking Parrett in her left armpit. After being shot, her vehicle rolled into a tree stump in the yard. Their two sons, who were in the car at the time of the shooting, managed to get out of the vehicle and run into the house unharmed.
Following the shooting of Parrett, Hunt made a phone call to a family member, confessing to what he had done and stating his intention to take his own life. A neighbor who witnessed the car crash and saw Hunt with the shotgun called 911. An officer arrived at the scene just moments before Hunt fatally shot himself, though the officer did not witness the suicide. Both Jennifer Parrett and Ryan Hunt were pronounced dead at the scene from single gunshot wounds. Police had previously been called to the residence in December of the prior year to standby as Parrett had stated she was moving out. Some of her belongings were found in the car on the day of her death.
