On the night of April 4, 2014, Joseph L. Dawkins, a 32-year-old Black male, was found lying in the street in the 1100 block of South 12th Street in Richmond, Indiana, not far from his home. He had been shot multiple times and was transported to Reid Health, where he was pronounced dead shortly after his discovery around 10:45 p.m. The Richmond Police Department immediately began investigating his death as a homicide.
