In the quiet community of Hamblen Township, Indiana, the life of 31-year-old Christopher Aaron Lucas was cut short in a tragic accident on the evening of May 9, 2015. A man known for his love of the outdoors and devotion to his family, his sudden death left a void in the hearts of those who knew him. Christopher, a resident of Bean Blossom, was a construction worker and a member of Labor Union No. 120.
On that fateful Saturday, Christopher had been at his Bean Blossom Road home.
He shared a passion for old Western-style revolvers with his friends and was practicing a quick-draw gun trick. This trick involved spinning the firearm on his finger before firing. In a devastating turn of events, the gun slipped from his grasp, and upon hitting the ground, it discharged. A single bullet struck him in the lower right abdomen.
Later that evening, friends arriving to visit Christopher found him unresponsive. Unaware that he had been shot, one of his friends immediately began administering CPR. Internally, however, Christopher was bleeding profusely. A 911 call was placed at 7:10 p.m., and first responders from the Hamblen Volunteer Fire Department arrived within eight minutes, followed shortly by an ambulance. It was only when emergency medical services began treating him in the ambulance that the gunshot wound was discovered.
Christopher was rushed to Columbus Regional Hospital, but the internal injuries were too severe. He was pronounced dead at the hospital, surrounded by a large gathering of family and friends, a testament to how beloved he was in his community. The Brown County Sheriff's Department investigated the incident and concluded that the shooting was accidental. As a result, no arrests were made, and there were no suspects in the case. Christopher Lucas is survived by his companion and their two children.
