In the late hours of March 2, 2016, the body of Randall Knefel, a 43-year-old Caucasian male, was discovered in a car on the 3400 block of Grant Street in Gary, Indiana. Knefel, a resident of Gary, had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the chest. The Lake County Coroner's Office was called to the scene and pronounced him dead at 10:20 p.m., officially ruling his death a homicide.
Investigators with the Gary Police Department believe that the location where Knefel's body was found was
not the scene of the shooting. It is suspected that he was shot at another location and then left inside the vehicle on Grant Street. The circumstances leading up to the shooting and a motive have not been publicly determined.
