On a tragic day in March of 2016, a 38-year-old man named Shawn D. Green, known to his friends as 'Chezy,' was riding his motorcycle on the east side of Indianapolis. What initially appeared to be a fatal motorcycle accident in the 7300 block of East 46th Street took a dark turn when medical examiners discovered two gunshot wounds in his body. His death was then ruled a homicide.
The investigation into his murder revealed that in the early morning hours of March 17, 2016, Green had
stopped at a strip club to help a friend with car trouble. He was shot and killed while riding his motorcycle home from that location. Police recovered two shell casings and surveillance footage that showed a car following Green's motorcycle. A troubling discovery was a group text message sent just hours after his death, warning recipients not to discuss anything related to 'Cheezy,' suggesting that there were individuals with knowledge of the crime who were unwilling to cooperate with law enforcement. Despite these leads, no arrests were ever made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with his murder.
In a separate and unrelated incident in the summer of 2020, another man named Shawn Green, aged 47, also lost his life to gun violence in Indianapolis. This fatal shooting, which occurred on July 1, 2020, was reported to be the result of a road rage incident on East 30th Street. In connection with this case, authorities were able to make an arrest.
