In the late hours of a Wednesday evening in Indianapolis, a brief argument escalated into a fatal encounter, claiming the life of Norman Rogers, a 39-year-old male. The incident unfolded around 11:30 p.m. on July 21, 2021, near the intersection of East 10th Street and Rural Avenue. An Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer who was patrolling the area witnessed the altercation and the subsequent violence.
According to accounts of the event, Bruce McClinton and Rogers were
engaged in a short dispute. The situation took a grim turn when McClinton opened fire on Rogers, who was reportedly on the ground with his hands raised. The entire tragic episode was also captured by nearby surveillance cameras, providing a clear record of the events that transpired. After the shooting, McClinton attempted to flee the scene on foot.
The witnessing officer pursued McClinton, who was soon located in the backyard of a nearby residence and taken into custody without further incident. The investigation that followed led to formal charges against McClinton for the murder of Norman Rogers. In January 2023, on the second day of his jury trial, Bruce McClinton pleaded guilty to murder.
