In the summer of 2016, the town of Brownsburg, Indiana, was rocked by its first homicide in a decade. On June 9, 30-year-old Christopher Brabson was shot and killed. The investigation into his death quickly focused on a member of his own family, leading to a tragic conclusion.
Authorities identified Christopher's brother, Justin Brabson, as a person of interest in the shooting. A search for Justin ensued, and he was located and taken into custody without incident at a hotel in Crawfordsville. The arrest brought a swift, yet somber, development to a case that had unsettled the community.
Justin Brabson was subsequently charged with the murder of his brother. The evidence presented during the legal proceedings detailed a fatal encounter where Christopher was shot multiple times. Following a trial, a jury found Justin Brabson guilty of the murder. For the crime, he received a sentence of 62 years in prison. An additional 10 years were added to his sentence due to the use of a firearm in the commission of the murder, bringing his total sentence to 72 years.
