On a late Monday afternoon in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the life of 18-year-old Emmanuel Freeman was tragically cut short. On June 27, 2016, police were called to the Diplomat Apartments on the southeast side of the city around 4:45 p.m. A woman in the parking lot directed officers to an apartment where they discovered Freeman unresponsive inside. He had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene.

In July 2024, the Fort Wayne Police Department's Cold Case Unit announced a breakthrough in the 2012 murder of Robert Jackson Jr. After countless interviews, detectives identified Emmanuel D. Freeman, also known as 'E Streets,' as the person who had shot and killed Jackson. Authorities stated that had Freeman not been killed in 2016, he would have been arrested and prosecuted for the murder of Robert Jackson Jr. While justice was served in a cold case, the investigation into Emmanuel Freeman's own murder remains without a publicly identified suspect.
