In the late summer of 2016, the life of 26-year-old Brittany Sater was tragically cut short in her Bloomington, Indiana home. A White female, Brittany was at her South Rogers Street residence in the early morning hours of August 28th when a violent encounter unfolded. Responding to a call about a shooting, police discovered Brittany at a neighbor's house, suffering from a gunshot wound to her chest. She was rushed to IU Health Bloomington Hospital in critical condition but succumbed to her injuries later that morning.
The subsequent investigation revealed the shooting was the result of a robbery gone wrong. Three individuals were identified and arrested in connection with the crime: Billie Jean Edison, Dennis Webb, and Johnny Moore. According to police reports, the trio had planned to rob Brittany of drugs and money. While Moore acted as the getaway driver, waiting in a nearby car, Edison and Webb entered the residence to carry out the robbery. It was during this confrontation that Dennis Webb fatally shot Brittany Sater.
The legal proceedings that followed brought a measure of justice for Brittany and her grieving family. Johnny Moore was found guilty of murder, robbery, and burglary, and despite his claims of innocence, he was sentenced to 77 years in prison. His extensive criminal history and involvement in drug-related activities were significant factors in his sentencing. Billie Jean Edison, who also faced charges of murder, robbery, and burglary, testified against Moore, stating that Webb was the individual who fired the fatal shot. Dennis Webb was also charged with murder, robbery, and burglary. He was ultimately sentenced to 63 years for his role in the murder and robbery of Brittany Sater.
