The life of 18-year-old Keisha Leann Huntington was cut short in the early hours of March 25, 2021, in her hometown of Bloomington, Indiana. Shortly after midnight, police received calls reporting gunshots in the 1400 block of North Woodburn Avenue. While officers were on their way, another call came in about a vehicle that had crashed near the La Bonita Restaurant & Market. There, police found a gray Honda that had struck a parked car.
Keisha, a female, was behind the wheel with a gunshot wound. First responders provided emergency aid before she was taken to IU Health Bloomington Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Investigators believe the fatal encounter began as an attempted robbery in the parking lot of the Northcrest Apartments on North Woodburn Avenue, where they located three 9mm shell casings. According to Keisha’s boyfriend, who was a passenger in the car, a male suspect pointed a gun at them and demanded money and property. As Keisha tried to drive away to escape, the assailant fired at the vehicle. The Monroe County Coroner later confirmed that Keisha died from a gunshot wound to her back and ruled her death a homicide.
The investigation moved swiftly, and police identified a 16-year-old male as the suspect. Later that same day, at about 11:15 a.m., investigators found the teen at an apartment in the 900 block of North Rogers Street. A Bloomington Police Department negotiator contacted the suspect by phone, and he surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody.
The suspect, identified as De’Angelo Tashean Princeton Tolliver Edwards, was formally charged as an adult in connection with Keisha's death. The charges included murder, murder committed during the commission of a felony, attempted murder, and robbery resulting in serious bodily injury. Following the filing of these charges in March 2021, the case remains pending in litigation.
