In the summer of 2016, a season marked by a troubling spike in violence in Indianapolis, 24-year-old Devon Grice, a male, became one of the city's tragic statistics. On the afternoon of July 28th, at approximately 1:50 p.m., the sound of gunfire shattered the quiet of the 1100 block of Sharon Avenue on the city's west side. When officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department arrived, they found Devon critically wounded from a shooting, lying on a porch.
He was rushed to Eskenazi Hospital, but despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries.
Devon's death left a profound void in the lives of his family and friends. His twin brother, Dechon, remembered him as a genuine and real person, expressing the immense pain of losing a part of himself that he could never get back. In the days that followed, loved ones gathered to mourn and honor Devon's memory, holding a service on August 6, 2016.

As of December of that year, his case was one of 87 unsolved criminal homicides in Indianapolis. To this day, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in the shooting of Devon Grice.
