On a spring morning in Indianapolis, the life of 19-year-old Ivionte Demar Campbell was tragically cut short. On April 25, 2024, police were called to the 3400 block of Timbersedge Drive on the city's near northwest side around 10 a.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered a grim scene with three male victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
Campbell was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other two victims were transported to local hospitals, one in critical condition and the other stable.
The investigation into the triple shooting led authorities to a suspect two months later. In June 2024, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department announced the arrest of 26-year-old Gerald Hatcher in connection with the April shooting. At the time of his arrest for Campbell's murder, Hatcher was already incarcerated for another, unrelated homicide that occurred in May.
Hatcher faced preliminary charges of murder for the death of Ivionte Campbell and aggravated assault for the injuries sustained by the other two men present at the scene. The Marion County Prosecutor's Office was tasked with determining the final charges to be filed against him, marking the next step in the pursuit of justice for Campbell and the other victims of the violent encounter. The case highlighted a disturbing pattern of violence, as Hatcher was linked to two separate deadly shootings in a short period.
