On the evening of September 7, 2018, in Indianapolis, a burst of gunfire shattered the night, leaving a man lifeless on the ground. The victim was 37-year-old Isaac H. Beck, a male known to some as 'White Boi'. Officers were dispatched to the 4300 block of North Keystone Avenue shortly after 9 p.m. following reports of a person shot. Upon arrival, they discovered Beck suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical personnel were unable to save him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting death of Beck, a barber and business owner, began immediately, with homicide detectives canvassing the area for any witnesses who might shed light on the violent encounter. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency was also called in to process the scene and collect any potential evidence that could lead to a suspect. Friends and family were left to mourn the loss of a man they described as a loving husband and father.
Nearly a month after the fatal shooting, a breakthrough in the case was announced. On October 4, 2018, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department arrested 25-year-old Dewayne Harper for his alleged role in Beck's death. Homicide detectives had developed probable cause to believe Harper was involved, and a warrant for murder was issued. Members of the IMPD Violent Crimes Unit located and apprehended Harper without incident. He was then transported to Central Booking for processing.
