In the cold winter evening of February 1, 2022, the life of 15-year-old Darryl Fisher was tragically cut short in Indianapolis. A Black male, Darryl was on College Avenue on the city's north side when he was struck by a bullet in the back of the neck. First responders rushed the critically injured teenager to a nearby hospital, but despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries two days later.
Darryl was remembered by his family and community as a hardworking and respectful young
man with a bright future. He was an active participant in the Tarkington Teen Work Crew at the MLK Center, where he was well-regarded by his peers and mentors. His mother, Kayla Fisher, spoke of her son's determination and his goal to one day take care of her. In a final act of generosity, Darryl's vital organs were donated, saving four lives.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department opened a homicide investigation into Darryl's death. However, details regarding a possible motive or any potential suspects have not been made public. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting, and they have urged anyone with information to come forward.
