In the late hours of a November night in 2018, tragedy struck on the far east side of Indianapolis, forever altering the lives of a local family. In the early morning of November 25th, in the 3100 block of Acoma Drive, gunfire erupted, leaving two men critically wounded. One of those men was 19-year-old Trashawn Rose-McKinstry, a Black / African American male born in Indianapolis on March 4, 1999.
Emergency services rushed both victims to a nearby hospital, their lives hanging in the balance.
For five days, Trashawn fought for his life, but his injuries proved to be too severe. On November 30, 2018, he succumbed to the gunshot wounds he had sustained. His passing left behind a grieving family, including his mother, Angelea, his father, Dennis Sr., and his two sons, Ja-Shawn and Rose. Those who knew him remembered him as a loving son, father, brother, and friend who enjoyed spending his time playing video games and being with his loved ones.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department immediately launched a homicide investigation into the shooting. Detectives canvassed the neighborhood, searching for witnesses and gathering forensic evidence with the help of the Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency. Despite their efforts, the investigation has been met with challenges. To date, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Trashawn Rose-McKinstry. The case remains an active and ongoing investigation, a painful open chapter for a family still seeking justice for their loss. The circumstances surrounding the shooting and the identity of the other male victim have not been publicly disclosed.
