In the early morning hours of June 15, 2023, the life of 29-year-old Wayne Allen Nalley was cut short in a fatal shooting on the east side of Indianapolis. The incident, which unfolded at a residence on Spencer Avenue, stemmed from a dispute over rent, according to authorities. Nalley, a male resident of Indianapolis, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Within hours of the shooting, Indianapolis Metro Police Department detectives arrested 45-year-old Keith Phillips in connection with
Nalley's death. Phillips had reportedly been living in his truck on the property where the shooting occurred. The victim's girlfriend, who was present at the time, witnessed the tragic event and immediately contacted emergency services. Her account, coupled with surveillance footage that allegedly captured Phillips shooting Nalley with a rifle, played a crucial role in the swift identification and apprehension of the suspect.
Further investigation into Phillips' background revealed that he had an active warrant for his arrest at the time of the shooting. The warrant was issued after he failed to appear in court for a probation violation connected to a prior weapons charge, for which he had been assigned to home detention. Following his arrest for the murder of Wayne Nalley, Phillips was formally charged and taken into custody.
