In the late hours of a Wednesday evening in Gary, Indiana, the life of 37-year-old Joshua Frierson, a Black male, was brought to a tragic and violent end. On June 12, 2019, at approximately 11:49 p.m., the sound of gunfire pierced the night in the 500 block of Jackson Street. Responding to reports of shots fired, police officers arrived to find Frierson lying in a vacant lot, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite the immediate response, his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Lake County Coroner's Office would later rule his death a homicide.
The investigation into the murder of Joshua Frierson was launched by the Gary Police Department in conjunction with the Lake/Gary Metro Homicide Unit. In the days and weeks that followed, authorities appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the individuals responsible for this senseless act of violence.
