In the spring of 2022, the life of 15-year-old Jayvon Wiggins, a young male from Gary, Indiana, was tragically cut short. On the evening of Sunday, May 22, 2022, at approximately 9:12 PM, Gary Police Officers were dispatched to the 2200 block of Virginia Street following a report of a person being shot.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered a grim scene. Jayvon Wiggins was found lying in the street, having sustained apparent gunshot wounds.
Medical first responders who arrived at the location were unable to detect any signs of life. The Lake County Coroner's Office was subsequently called to the scene and officially pronounced the teenager deceased.
The investigation into the shooting was turned over to the Metro Homicide Unit. Authorities have publicly requested that anyone with information regarding the incident come forward and contact either the Metro Homicide Unit directly or the Crime Tip Line. At this time, details regarding any potential suspects or arrests in connection with the shooting have not been publicly released as the investigation continues.
