Gary XP Miller II, a 24-year-old White male known in the local rap scene as 'XP,' was shot and killed on the evening of October 7, 2019. Miller was a co-owner of the A-List Music Group LLC and was actively performing at various venues, both in and out of town.
His death sent ripples of shock and grief through his circle of family, friends, and fans who remembered him for his vibrant personality and dedication to his music.
The fatal incident unfolded around 4:30 p.m. at the Southport Crossing apartments. Witnesses in the area reported hearing a volley of gunshots. When the sound subsided, Miller was discovered deceased inside a car. Another man, identified as 22-year-old Lamont Day Jr., had also been shot. Day reportedly attempted to flee and seek help but ultimately collapsed and succumbed to his injuries after being transported to a local hospital. The apartment complex where the shooting occurred had been the scene of multiple homicides in the years prior to this event.
For three years, the case of the double homicide remained under investigation. In November 2022, a significant breakthrough occurred when authorities arrested 25-year-old Craig Chambers in connection with the deaths of Miller and Day. Court documents that were later released detailed the circumstances surrounding the killings. Investigators believe that Chambers was attempting to rob Miller of marijuana when a struggle ensued. During this altercation, both Miller and Day were fatally shot. Evidence suggested that three different guns were fired during the incident, and Chambers himself sustained a gunshot wound to the leg.
