In the early hours of a Tuesday morning in Gary, Indiana, the life of 21-year-old Damarius Carr, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short. On October 22, 2019, Carr was shot near the intersection of 12th Avenue and Johnson Street. He was quickly transported to Methodist Northlake Hospital, but the gunshot wounds proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead at 2:30 a.m. The Lake County Coroner's Office later confirmed that his death was a homicide resulting from the shooting.
