In the winter of 2020, a gathering on the west side of Indianapolis turned fatal for Leeshawn Parker, a 28-year-old male. On the evening of January 5th, police were called to a residence in the 9000 block of Mt. Shasta North Drive, near North Raceway Road and West 21st Street. Inside the home, they discovered Parker, who had sustained apparent gunshot wounds.
Medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
Investigators learned that an argument had broken out among roommates because one of them had invited Parker to the residence. The dispute escalated, leading to multiple shots being fired inside the home. As tensions heightened in one of the bedrooms, Lyman Spurlock, who was 21 at the time, shot Parker twice in the head. Spurlock remained at the location until law enforcement arrived.
Following an investigation, the Indianapolis Metro Police Department arrested Lyman Spurlock for his involvement in the homicide. In July 2021, after a three-day jury trial, Spurlock was convicted of murder. Subsequently, in September 2021, he was sentenced to 45 years in the Indiana Department of Correction for the shooting death of Leeshawn Parker.
