On the evening of April 27, 2020, a somber discovery was made on the near northwest side of Indianapolis. Eric Whitfield, a 31-year-old male, was found inside his running pick-up truck on Herschell Avenue, having sustained what appeared to be gunshot wounds. Police had initially received a call about a person shot in the area around 9 p.m., but it wasn't until approximately two hours later that Whitfield was located.
