In the summer of 2020, the life of a vibrant and beloved young man, David Lamont Lowery Jr., was tragically cut short in Indianapolis. Known affectionately as “Doodles,” the 16-year-old was a rising sophomore at Warren Central High School. He was known for his infectious humor and caring nature, always striving to make sure those around him were looked after. His life, however, came to a violent end on June 7, 2020.
David was a young man deeply involved in his community.
He was an active participant in several local programs, including the Martin Luther King Community Center and the Boyz II Kingz Mentoring Program. A person of faith, he had been a member of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church since the age of nine, where he sang in the youth choir. He had a passion for sports, enjoying football, basketball, boxing, and track. His family was of utmost importance to him, and he cherished the time he spent with them and his friends.
On that fateful early June evening, David was among a large group of young people when an argument escalated into gunfire. The shooting resulted in the death of the 16-year-old, leaving his family and community devastated. His loved ones remember him as an intelligent young man with a bright future, a jokester who brought smiles to everyone he knew.
In the wake of his death, David's family pleaded with the public for any information that could lead to an arrest. They held onto the hope that someone would come forward and provide the clue needed to bring justice for their son. However, despite their pleas and the ongoing investigation, no arrests have been publicly announced in connection with the murder of David Lowery Jr. The case remains unsolved, a painful open wound for a family and community still mourning the loss of a promising young life.
