In the early morning hours of February 18, 2024, the life of 26-year-old Bryant Keith Melton Jr. was tragically cut short in a shooting on the northwest side of Indianapolis. A Black male, Melton was discovered by Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers around 5:40 a.m. in the driver's seat of a car parked in the 5700 block of Little Creek Drive, within the Aspen Chase Apartments complex near West 56th Street and Moller Road.
He had sustained injuries consistent with gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene by medics. The Marion County Coroner's Office later confirmed his identity.
Bryant, born on February 10, 1998, was a graduate of Pike High School, Class of 2016, and had attended Indiana State University. He had built a career working with individuals with special needs and in warehousing. Known for his love of music and art, he was described as a loving son, a caring sibling, and an amazing uncle to his three nieces and seven nephews. His family and friends remember him as a wise, laid-back, and helpful individual.
As of the latest reports, the police have not released any information regarding a possible motive for the shooting or any potential suspects. The investigation into the death of Bryant Melton Jr. is ongoing. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the IMPD Homicide Office or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana.
