Jimmy Thomas and Jaquareous Mitchell were inside the Shell gas station at 34th Street and Emerson Avenue on the evening of Saturday, April 22, 2023, when they were both gunned down. The brothers were reportedly running a quick
errand to get a pizza before the fatal shooting occurred. In the immediate aftermath, there was an outpouring of grief from family and friends. The girlfriend of Jaquareous Mitchell, with whom he had five children and another on the way, expressed her heartbreak and disbelief. She revealed that there had been a dispute with a neighbor living in a nearby abandoned apartment, leading her to believe this individual might be responsible for the shooting.
